Abstract

The global pandemic established by identification of the new coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2), in 2020, generated impacts in the economically most vulnerable population. The main purpose of this article is to present the results obtained by a survey carried out to understand the effects of the pandemic on the budget of families of students at Fatec – Jahu. The methodology applied was a qualitative research with exploratory and descriptive objectives. The data obtained with the questionnaire applied to a sample of 115 students were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Most students use budgets, however, a minority use formal budgets. Of the most used formal budgets, the budget with paper notes was the most cited. Most students demonstrated knowledge about the logic necessary to maintain the surplus budget, as well as recognized that the budget contributed a lot to fighting the pandemic. There was a balance between a fall and no change in family income. The biggest cause of the drop in the income level with the pandemic was unemployment. For those who had an increase in income, the main reason was to have got a new job. Regarding the receipt of specific benefits for the pandemic, the majority stated that they did not receive them. Most students found an increase in spending, due to the increase in food, fuel and transport prices along with electricity and water. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that the practice of budgeting helped during the pandemic period.
