LEGAL RESERVE, LAND STRUCTURE AND REMAINING VEGETATION IN THE JAÚ'S AGRICULTURAL REGION
Abstract
This paper accomplished a bibliographic review of the federal and state legislation on the sustainable use of natural resources, bearing in mind the exploitation of native tree species in the Legal Reserves of rural properties in the municipalities of the agricultural region of Jaú, in the center-west of the São Paulo State. In order to elaborate the article, in addition to the analysis of the apposite legislation, data from the agricultural census survey, the forest inventory and the Map of Biomes of the São Paulo State were used. Based on the processing of information in a geographic information system, the liability of the Legal Reserve in the agricultural region of Jaú was estimated. The remaining vegetation of the 16 studied municipalities is only 8.4% of the total area. The results demonstrate the importance of implementing the economic instruments provided for the law for the protection of native vegetation, by means of planting with conservation and productive purposes in multifunctional forest systems in the protected areas of rural properties.
