SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN MUNICIPALITIES WITH OVER 30,000 INHABITANTS: AN APPLIED ANALYSIS IN THE STATE OF GOIÁS
UMA ANÁLISE APLICADA AO ESTADO DE GOIÁS
Abstract
This article aims to adapt and apply a multidimensional assessment model of socioeconomic development and urban quality of life to municipalities in the state of Goiás with populations over 30,000 inhabitants. Inspired by the framework developed by the Center for Urban Studies (NEC), the model is structured around seven key dimensions: Health, Education, Public Safety, Environment, Urban Mobility, Economy, and Public Finance. The methodology was applied to 40 municipalities selected based on population size and regional criteria. The results revealed significant disparities, highlighting municipalities such as Rio Verde, Goiânia, and Itumbiara for their strong performance. The proposed model contributes to evidence-based urban planning aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11. Moreover, it offers a replicable framework for other regions with a predominance of medium-sized cities, reinforcing the role of indicators in the formulation of effective public policies.
