Abstract

The article presents the project of an urban agroforestry system associated with the community garden in order to promote the revitalization of an urban green area, which currently does not have any leisure and recreation attraction, nor adequate afforestation. Agroforestry, in addition to providing soil protection, can contribute to the environmental education of users of the area, providing belonging and awareness of the importance of consuming healthy foods for a better quality of life. Once the community garden is implemented, it will be possible to offer vegetables and fruits to the surrounding population. In addition, the interaction of the community with the agroforestry system will allow the use of ecosystem services such as: reduction of the temperature in the place and increase of the infiltration of rainwater. The proposal intends to implement the urban agroforestry associated with the vegetable garden in an area of 2,500m². There will be 35 trees of 8 species of fruit trees and 9 species of vegetables distributed in different flowerbeds. The area will be fenced to prevent theft and vandalism. The fence will also serve as an espalier to allow the development of seedlings of ora-pro-nóbis (Pereskia aculeata), an unconventional food plant, climbing vine with thorns. The community agroforestry was inspired by the community gardens of Jaú, with a technical visit being carried out in the municipal garden of Jardim Itamarati.
